The Gloucestershire Poet Laureate was announced on 19th October at The Olympus Theatre by the outgoing county Poet Laureate Brenda Read-Brown. Nominees were invited back to perform a selection of their poems, alongside poetry from Brenda Read-Brown and the New Laureate Z.D Dicks. Ziggy Dicks is Founder and Director of Gloucestershire Poetry Society, The Gloucester Poetry Festival, holds an MA in Creative and Critical Writing from the University of Gloucestershire and is published by Black Eyes Publishing for his Books ‘Intimate Nature‘ and ‘Malcontent‘ and various other journals and magazines. His latest works ‘Vexed’ will be published in 2020 by The Hedgehog Poetry Press and he has great plans for the county.
He said about receiving the laureateship. ” I am honoured to receive this award. It’s an exciting opportunity to make positive change and encourage community growth.”
Ziggy was invited by Dominic Cotter to attend BBC Radio Gloucestershire – to discuss the laureateship and how he feels about becoming the laureate. ( radio interview from 14.00 ). Ziggy Dicks will be retuning regularly to the show.
The Gloucester Poetry Festival is a whole month of poetry events across the county. The new Laureate will be in attendance at the last event of the festival, ‘Sortilege’ on 31st of October, in Gloucester.
